even if it leads nowhere
Jul. 16th, 2008 09:30 pmIf there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.
um hi. pretty much all of you. :)
still the emo-est girl in all the land, but feeling a little better. still desperately want to run away from life, but am keeping it together. mostly. there was a moment when I had to duck into M's office earlier because I didn't want to cry in the god damn hallway where the fucktards I work with could see me. ugh.
so randomly I've been thinking about the cook/archuleta pairing and why I can only stomach it sometimes and other times it skeeves me the fuck out. for a while I was all 'ewwwww he's only 17 it's icky' which okay, valid I suppose. but then I flashed on what is arguably one of my favorite pairings in popslash... timbertrick. and euro-era timbertrick at that. so what's different? the age difference is about the same. cook and kirkpatrick have the same snarky, been there-done that, this isn't how i thought i'd make it but oh well let's ride the ride vibe to them. so the difference is archuleta and timberlake. archuleta is only 17. timberlake was never that young. timberlake was never a kid. archuleta has somehow managed to grow up on the stage (much like timberlake) and yet somehow managed to retain a real innocence about him. timberlake cloaked himself in a parody of innocence. that was his persona for the first part of his career. archuleta isn't putting on an act of innocence. he just is. so yeah. I'm not sure why I felt the need to get that out.
I have too many thoughts.

on 2008-07-17 03:14 pm (UTC)i'm finding i can read the cookleta when it's well-written, but i just can't... i just don't in any way believe it, you know? i'm a little less squicked than i was before, but, honestly, if there was more of some other type of fic out there, i'd probably steer clear.

on 2008-07-17 03:29 pm (UTC)Also, nawww, I totally understand your D-squared squickiness, although I still can't help imagining the huge huge boycrush Archuleta has on Cook, and how Cook finds it endearing and lovable (especially because Archuleta thinks Cook doesn't know), but just not in a creepy way. Hehehehe.
Now David C/Syesha...gimme some please. *HEE*
You'd think I don't think this much about this, but I do! We must discuss when I see you face to face to I can fully explain myself and not come off sounding like a freak to youuuuuuu. <33333333

on 2008-07-17 03:48 pm (UTC)oh the boycrush angle is my favorite type of cook/archuleta story. it's so cute. and frankly gen stories with them just being their adorable selves are my very favorite, but no one really writes that which makes me sad. ;_;
cook/syesha... hmmm. see that's hot like burning in theory, except that I find syesha to be boring in the extreme. but still. pretty!
that makes me so happy because I was afraid you'd all be 'stfu about david cook already' so \o/

on 2008-07-17 07:51 pm (UTC)(A lot of my see-sawing on him depends on whether I'm reading it as naivete or as seeing the icky and the bad, accepting it, and being just that good, anyway, on a given day.)

on 2008-07-17 09:06 pm (UTC)of course not as fascinated as I am by Michael or David (or Carly omg people write more Carly!) but still.
oh and hey. did you see that fan report about Michael telling the crowds about him and Carly dating? I'll copy and paste it below since it was in a flocked entry. taken from an Archuleta board I guess....
Afterwards I sprinted down to the bus area again so they could sign the rest of the stuff, and we were in the middle again. No one was starting at the middle. At about ten forty five, out came Carly and Kristy and Brooke. I got them all to sign my tour book, and I talked to Kristy a little bit and I told them all that they were amazing (they were like, “Thank you!” and all nice). I told Carly I thought she was spectacular and she goes, “Thank you so much, that means a lot to me.” Then Michael and Chikezie came out. They signed our book too. And then Michael starts going, “Hey guys! Did you know Carly and I are dating?” and Carly goes, “Shut up Johns!” and he’s like, “No, it’s true. Right there in the National Enquirer, big picture of us with our fingers interlocked. They’re calling us Marly.” And Carly runs over to him and it like, “I’m going to kill you later, Johns.” and he goes up right in her face and starts singing, “My baby wrote me a letter!” and she’s like, “I’m going to kill you!”
OH MICHAEL JOHNS. DON'T EVER CHANGE.
