I hallucinated I could read your mind

So I ended up staying up waaaay to late last night reading meta about Criminal Minds, one of the few fandoms that meta doesn't make me want to stab people. :) Found some interesting stuff, particularly in looking at the gender roles on the show and how they twist them all around. I approve. Also watched 4 episodes, "No Way Out," "The Big Game," "Revelations," and "Fear and Loathing."
No Way Out - I'm still not sure what I think of this episode. The guest cast was pretty good, I always like Amy Madigan and she does crazy so well. The sheriff too, although I can't think of her name. Mostly though I just think I enjoyed a few good character moments. Favorite by far was:
Hotch: "Well, define love."
Reid: "Chemically, it involves surging brain elements called monamines, dopamines, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Love chemicals controlled by phenethylamine are also found in --"
Prentiss: "Chocolate. I love chocolate."
Reid: "Peas, too! It's also found in peas!"
Prentiss: "Peas?"
Hotch: "Reid?"
Reid: "Indeed, some veritable --"
Hotch: "Reid, stop. Please."
Reid is such a puppy in this episode. He's practically vibrating with excitement as he talks about "love." And the way Prentiss says chocolate is pretty fantastic too. I love when these two bond in geeky ways. Also earlier when they're in the police station and they have the encounter with Jane.
Reid: "A psycho with a whistle. That's not too weird."
Oh Reid. One of the things I really like about him in this episode is that he's so puppy!Reid and it's such a great lead in to the next two episodes where everything comes crashing down. Which leads me to...
The Big Game - Well. James Van Der Beek can act. Who knew? Mostly the episode was all about the moment when Hotch realizes that he's sent Reid and JJ to the unsub's house. The cut between his face and then the door opening on Reid and JJ was just. *shudder*
Also, for being so smart, Reid is really dumb sometimes. WHY WOULD YOU SPLIT UP? Also, ahahahaha "Have you ever seen me pull this out when I'm not sure?" Reid I love you.
And holy crap that was scary when JJ was in the barn and the dogs and that woman torn apart and just. ew.
Revelations - And if there were any lingering doubts that MGG can act, I certainly hope this dispelled them. Wow.
I've seen other comments on this around and found it to be one of the things I liked best about the episode. Torture wasn't glamorous. The hero didn't stoically sit there and keep all his secrets. There were tears and snot and vomit and pain and my god SHOW.
Not surprisingly I loved the bits where Hotch solves the case ("Quick everyone name my worst quality. Here I'll start.") and then the end when Reid hugs him "I knew you'd understand."
But my GOD. The way Reid is so broken now. Not that I actually think he was whole to start with, but damn. And JJ too. Oh! I almost forgot that moment where she pulls the gun on Prentiss and then somehow, because this show is made of so much fucking win, it goes from JJ is having PROBLEMS to hey... Emily is totally broken and fucked up too. With Hotch even coming in to voice his agreement. \o/
I hope this season delves into the many reasons why Emily Prentiss is DAMAGED.
Fear and Loathing - Nice work with the PTSD with Reid. I know JJ is going to have some as well, and I saw a few complaints that they didn't address it, but hey. It's a tv show with a limited amount of time to tell the story. And there are seven main characters. Maybe cut them some slack. (so protective of show omg.)
Hotch's face on "and so you shot him?" was so very Hotch. <3
Reid and Morgan at the end. Oh Reid.
SHOW ILU SO HARD.
- work continues to be oh so fun. to sum up I turn to the words of Tori Amos:
boys all think she's living kindness
ask a fellow waitress
Friday can not get here fast enough.
