I have no idea how the big bang works really other than they're BIG.

creating a fanmix. (since my artistic skills are approx negative a million)

essentially an author writes a big long awesome story. around the time they finish their rough draft, artists/mixers claim what stories they want to work with, ideally the author and artist collaborate a little and then TA-DA. a big bang post with awesome story and accompanying art and/or fanmix. this is the first time I've participated as an actual creator of something. (I have done beta duties before but that's different.)
