- it took me 15 minutes to do my midterm in medical terminology tonight. I either aced it or failed spectacularly. either way SPRING BREAK BABY. I still have to work though which is a huge bummer.
- good choice AI. also Adam Lambert you are adorable.
- I can see that this is not the day when I don't sob uncontrollably at the end of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. wtf self he's only dead for like 20 minutes.
- also David Marcus. so cuuuuuute.
- I should try going to bed at a decent hour tonight. uh huh. I'll uh. get right on that.
- oh that stupid training I went to was as useless as I assumed it would be. fortunately my supervisor (who had to sit through it as well) pretty much agreed with me.

About ten years ago (god... it was ten years ago??) I went to a Star Trek convention with a very old friend of mine. (She and I became trek geeks together following the theatrical release of the Wrath of Khan - it was 1983 or something; we were 13 at the time). In the bar of the con hotel, they were playing ST-II. It was right near the end... Spock disappeared from the bridge...

Me: Molly, don't watch, you'll cry and ruin your makeup and you get to meet Sid in an hour!!!
Molly: *rolls eyes* Yeah, right. I've only seen this fourty-billion times. I am NOT going to cry.
- Jump to 20 minutes later -
Me: There, there...
Molly: *Sobs helplessly into her gin and tonic*

Good times. Good, good times... Keep in mind, we really thought he was permanently dead for a year or two.

oh yeah. I can remember seeing it during it's theatrical release... 1983 would have made me 12 at the time. I remember that one of the neighborhood moms was taking all the boys to see it and I had to ask if I could go too. I was the only girl in our neighborhood who wanted to go. I had to pretend not to be crying (my brother amazingly did not rat me out) or I would have never heard the end of it. when I went to sleep that night I just sobbed into my pillow.

and yeah I thought he was permanently dead. you know. until the next movie was announced and the title pretty much gave it away. heh.

!!!! For some reason I thought you were a lot younger than I. You just look young I guess. We must be quite close to the same age, actually. Heh. Sorry about that!

and the actor who played David Marcus really is dead. Did you ever read the novelization by Vonda McIntyre? One of the best movie novelizations ever written - she really built up a backstory for the genesis scientists.

really? that's sad. I always thought he was dreamy in that mid-80s kind of way. lol. and I have not read the novelization. I hate the way Search for Spock turns David into shady scientist guy. I'll have to check to used book stores around here to see if I can find it.

He died of a drug overdose - very sad. Do you remember him from the short-lived '80s series "Square Pegs"? It also had Sarah Jessica Parker in it.

It is worth reading for sure - there is a lot more character development on Saavik too (I hated Saavik in Search for Spock; say what you will about crazy Kirstie, but she made an awesome Vulcan. I wanted to BE her). Most used book stores seem to have seven or eight copies - but let me know if you can't find it and I'll look here.

I do remember Square Pegs! I loved that show. and that's right! he was the "punk" boy. Johnny? I think. heh.

I'll take a look around and let you know if I can't find it. but seriously every used book store I've ever been in has tons of old Star Trek. \o/
