I went to college in Santa Cruz and worked at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. all told it was a pretty sweet life. during the summer they employ a bunch of students from England, Scotland and Ireland and for whatever reason I fell in with a group of them and we spent our entire summer working, dancing, drinking and having so much fun that I actually forgot for a few months that I was still an absolute basket case. (no really, I was a mess at school but for that summer, I was golden.) ANYWAY. there was a boy (isn't there always) from Wales named James. we spent a lot of time together and mostly just hung out and were crazy and drunk and happy. and then there was ABBA. James loved ABBA in the most glorious, non-ironic way possible. and I can not listen to anything by ABBA without thinking of lounging on his bed in his beach front apartment (sounds nice, but the workers were put up in these little shitholes that just happen to be at the beach) and talking about everything that came into our heads. it's funny how I don't always think of him when I hear it, but god do I think of that apartment, with the summer heat and the sounds of all the tourists outside the door. anyway this was the song that he was listening to the first time I stopped by.

and I thought maybe I should walk right up to her and say / ah-ha-ha, it's a game he likes to play

:) it's kind of crazy the way some memories are just so clear even after... oh god almost 17 years now.
